BulliGras - Galveston State Park - Feb 1-3, 2008

Prior to the Mardi Gras event in Galveston, the e-mail postings were hot and heavy regarding another yearly camp-out of the members of TCB. For those that are not familiar with TCB it is a loosely knit organization of VW bus and camper owners that keep in contact strictly by e-mail and, meet for camp-outs at various shows and events.

Last year, twenty two (22) bus's attended. This year, I am told,  a few of last year's attendees could not make it but, the number was exceed by one (1) anyway. In addition, another couple from the Houston area, that came to the park for a fishing trip, stopped by our group campfire and enjoyed some time with the rest of us.

Attendees came from as far away as Oklahoma and Arkansas. A batch from the Dallas Ft. Worth area were there and a few from the Austin and San Antonio areas. Some purposely came early, to enjoy a Friday night music presentation, in downtown Galveston.

Unlike last year, there were no cruises from the Houston area formally assembled. In my case, although I intended to leave early, it was nearly 5:00 PM on Friday, before I was able able to get away. My 1984 Vanagon camper had some serious issues that had to be repaired, before I could leave Houston. I always hate to arrive at a campsite after dark. Luckily, Paul Smith from Temple spotted me, along the way, and helped me find our camping spot.

The weather was exceptionally mild and a good time was had by all. The Marti Gras celebration was as "wild and woolly" as usual. The seafood in Galveston is always some of the best. Most everyone left by noon on Sunday and other than one fuel pump problem (experienced by one of the "out of town-ers" on the way in) I heard of no major problems.  Not bad for 20 to 50 year old vehicles.
